Valentine's Day Roses - Why Are They Popular?

Valentine's Day has been around for hundreds of years. In the past, couples would send each other hidden messages through flower bouquets since romance stayed behind formality.

Since the Victorian era, things have changed a lot and society became a lot less rigid about displaying signs of affection in public. But if you're curious about where it all started and why it is popular today, you have to revisit its history.

According to legend, Valentine's Day originated during the third century of Rome. Emperor Claudius II outlawed single young men from marriages since he believed they made better soldiers.

A young priest named Valentine was infuriated by this and rebelled by uniting couples in wedlock in secret. He was imprisoned and later sentenced to his death. During the end of the 5th Century, Pope Gelasius declared February 14 to be Valentine's Day in honor of this saint.

According to the Greeting Card Association, Valentine’s is considered the second-largest card-sending holiday in the world. The tradition of gifting roses in Valentine’s traces back to King Charles II of Sweden in the late 17th century. On his trip to Persia, he was exposed to the language of flowers where feelings were conveyed without using any words.

This art soon bloomed in Europe and people started learning about the various meanings flowers conveyed to their loved ones. Today, flower companies provide overnight long stem roses delivery for this day which we know as Valentine's Day. There are also a growing number of websites that also provide long stem luxury roses delivery with worldwide shipping for Valentine's.
